European Travel Executive Summit
ACTE is assembling the most influential executives in government and industry to debate critical business issues at ACTE’s European Travel Executive Summit, which will be held concurrently with the Global Education Conference in Munich. The one-day Summit will take place at the conference venue on Monday, 22 October 2007 from 8:30 am – 1:30 pm.
The Summit will focus on two key areas of public/private concern in the travel sector: sustainability and security, and the attendant economic and operational impacts of various regulatory initiatives.
Martin Walker, a leading authority on global business and policy trends, will moderate this dynamic exchange among industry and government officials. Mr. Walker is Senior Director of the Global Business Policy Council at A.T. Kearney and is also a well-respected and knowledgeable journalist.
Attendance is limited and by invitation-only. The audience will include leading travel buyers and suppliers as well as association and government officials. This exclusive, peer-driven event will enable the business travel community to play a more productive role in ensuring the long term viability of the industry as a whole.

Rt Hon Dr. Denis MacShane
Denis MacShane has been MP for Rotherham since May 1994. He was named a Minister at the Foreign Office by Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2001 and was deputy to the Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw and Minister for Europe from 2002-2005. He was sworn as a Privy Councillor in June 2005. Before becoming an MP Denis worked in international and European political affairs and wrote books on the steel industry as well as on global political issues. He set up and was first chairman of the Steel Group of MPs in the House of Commons and works closely with Corus and the steel trade unions on behalf of the Rotherham steel industry.. He was born in Glasgow and educated at Oxford (MA) and London University (Ph D).

Economic Context:
Kenneth McGill is Executive Managing Director of the Travel & Tourism practice at Global Insight. Recognized as the most consistently accurate forecasting company in the world, Global Insight has over 3,800 clients in industry, finance, and government with revenues in excess of $95 million, 600 employees, and 23 offices in 13 countries covering North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. McGill is responsible for managing the firm's consulting activities dedicated to analysis of the travel and tourism sector. He leads consulting projects related to strategic planning and market analysis for the accommodation, entertainment, and transportation industries, as well as for the public sector. He has nearly three decades of experience in economic analysis and strategic consulting and is a graduate of West Virginia University.
Security:
Elly Plooij-van Gorsel has a distinguished career of public service including 10 years as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). During her tenure, she served on the committees for Research, Technology and Energy and External Economic Relations and was a member of the Delegation for Relations with the United States. She is currently a board member of EUClaim and serves on various advisory councils, including the Advisory Council on International Affairs for the Dutch government and Parliament. In 2004, Van Gorsel joined Blueprint Partners as Senior Counsellor. Blueprint Partners is a multinational group of 16 public affairs and communications professionals which offers valuable insight into the workings of all the European institutions.
Sustainability:
Mark Pilling is the Editor of Airline Business magazine, the monthly strategic boardroom title reporting on the air transport industry. He has been a business journalist, specialising in aviation, for his entire career, beginning by reporting on the regional airline business in the late 1980s. He held the posts of deputy editor of Commuter World magazine and Interavia Aerospace Review prior to being appointed editor of Airports International in 1992. In 2000, he joined the editorial team at Airline Business, becoming its managing editor in January 2001. For two years from 2002 he also edited Airport World, the official magazine of the Airports Council International. In August 2005 he was appointed editor of Airline Business. He makes regular appearances on television and radio, such as CNN and the BBCWorld Service and has written for a host of titles on aviation matters, including Flight International, Flight Daily News, The Financial Times and The International Herald Tribune.
