Background
The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) is pleased to partner with the world’s best hospitality and tourism management programmes and leading suppliers of business travel products and services to award Around the World in 80 Hours Student Fellowships to distinguished university students who have demonstrated an exceptional interest in corporate travel management and a commitment to working in the global business travel industry.
The 9- to 12-week programme offers unprecedented academic training, experiential learning and networking opportunities with industry leaders in global business centers throughout Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North & South America.
2012 Fellowship winners will be announced on 3 August 2012 for the September-November 2012 programme.
Fellowship Qualifications
To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following criteria:
- Current enrollment as a 4th year undergraduate, recent graduate, or graduate student from an accredited university; preference will be given to students with a demonstrated interest in global business or travel/hospitality management.
- A minimum grade point average of 3.0 / 4.0 (or equivalent)
- For non-native English speakers, a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (“TOEFL”); Note: A student who receives a 6.5 on the IELTS is exempt from taking the TOEFL
- A valid passport and visas to travel to the countries included on the programme
Expectations of Fellowship Recipients
Fellowship recipients will be expected to:
- Fund passport and visa costs, airfare to the beginning city and home from the final city, and living expenses during the programme internship
- Complete a substantive work product, e.g., business plan, industry forecast, market research, etc., for the designated industry partner that is funding the Fellowship. The specific work product will be defined by the Fellowship sponsor.
- Participate in 2-4 week internships, scheduled during the programme with the designated industry partner that is funding the Fellowship
- Accept an employment contract for up to 12 months with the industry partner that is funding the Fellowship (with the option of transitioning to a permanent placement, if both parties are agreeable).
* Specific terms and conditions will be clarified in a written agreement between the Fellowship winner and the funding industry partner.

Note: Students interested in receiving university credit must meet transfer student admission requirements of the Conrad N. Hilton College, University of Houston (completed more than 20 credit hours of college-level credit and have a GPA of 2.75.) In addition, international students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 for the paper exam or 79 on the Internet-based exam. Official transcripts and English translations (if applicable) are also required of all applicants. Interested students should review the Programme Code of Conduct & Participation Guidelines and submit a Programme Application. Students will be notified of the status of their application within 30 days of submission. Enrollment is competitive and limited to five (5) students per semester.
