Experience the World of Global Business Travel Management

Around the World in 80 Hours ("ATW80") - a certified, hands-on, global immersion training and development programme focused exclusively on global business travel management.

Travel Professionals Gain additional market knowledge within select cities and regions via a customized itinerary that includes as many destinations as your schedule allows.
University Students Apply for the comprehensive 9- to 12-week training programme and earn up to nine (9) undergraduate credit hours awarded by the University of Houston's Conrad N. Hilton College. Each programme includes practical training / internship opportunities in addition to the activities below. Enrollment is competitive and limited to five (5) students per semester.

Applicants may create a customized itinerary to gain market knowledge within select cities and regions, or apply to participate in the entire programme.

Fees

Individual Cities Option for Travel Professionals
$2,495 USD per city
Fees include city-specific programme activities, hotel accommodations, local transportation to/from appointments, and some meals. Fees do not include airfare.
9- to 12-Week Programme for University Students
$26,995 USD
Includes all scheduled programme activities, intra-programme airfare, hotel accommodations (2 students per room), some meals, most local transportation, medical evacuation & travel insurance. Visa costs and airfare to the starting city and return from final destination are not included. Please note enrollment is competitive and limited to five (5) students per semester.
Internship Program
$2,495 USD
Includes internship placement with a global business travel organization. Attempts will be made to match students according to preferences for certain geographic regions and/or industry categories (airlines, hotels, corporate travel departments, etc.) whenever possible. Employer is required to provide substantive work responsibilities and a physical workspace. Length of internship and employment terms are subject to determination between the intern and his/her hosting organization. Interested students should contact [email protected] for more information.

Sample City Itinerary

Day One:
  • Economic, industry & cultural briefings
  • Cultural excursion & city tour
  • Welcome dinner with programme participants and local VIPs

Day Two:

  • Industry updates from key sectors of the corporate travel industry, e.g., airlines, hotels, travel managers, TMCs, etc.
  • Classroom instruction on corporate travel management, i.e.:
    • Introduction to the Corporate Travel Industry
    • Structuring a Global Corporate Travel Management Programme
    • Developing & Implementing a Corporate Travel Policy
    • Procurement Practices & Key Performance Indicators
    • Corporate Travel Automation Tools & Technologies
    • Traveler Duty of Care & Risk Management
    • And more!

Day Three:

  • Site visits and partner tours to key suppliers of business travel products and services, e.g., corporate payments, expense management tools, global distribution systems (GDS), online booking tools, hotel operations, etc.
  • Closing reception with programme participants and sponsor partners

Day Four to Six:

  • Practical training opportunities with local buyers and suppliers of business travel products and services.

Background

The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) is pleased to partner with the world’s best hospitality and tourism management programmes and leading suppliers of business travel products and services to award Around the World in 80 Hours Student Fellowships to distinguished university students who have demonstrated an exceptional interest in corporate travel management and a commitment to working in the global business travel industry.

The 9- to 12-week programme offers unprecedented academic training, experiential learning and networking opportunities with industry leaders in global business centers throughout Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North & South America.

2012 Fellowship winners will be announced on 3 August 2012 for the September-November 2012 programme.

Fellowship Qualifications

To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Current enrollment as a 4th year undergraduate, recent graduate, or graduate student from an accredited university; preference will be given to students with a demonstrated interest in global business or travel/hospitality management.
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0 / 4.0 (or equivalent)
  • For non-native English speakers, a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (“TOEFL”); Note: A student who receives a 6.5 on the IELTS is exempt from taking the TOEFL
  • A valid passport and visas to travel to the countries included on the programme

Expectations of Fellowship Recipients

Fellowship recipients will be expected to:

  • Fund passport and visa costs, airfare to the beginning city and home from the final city, and living expenses during the programme internship
  • Complete a substantive work product, e.g., business plan, industry forecast, market research, etc., for the designated industry partner that is funding the Fellowship. The specific work product will be defined by the Fellowship sponsor.
  • Participate in 2-4 week internships, scheduled during the programme with the designated industry partner that is funding the Fellowship
  • Accept an employment contract for up to 12 months with the industry partner that is funding the Fellowship (with the option of transitioning to a permanent placement, if both parties are agreeable).

* Specific terms and conditions will be clarified in a written agreement between the Fellowship winner and the funding industry partner.

Hilton College, University of Houston (completed more than 20 credit hours of college-level credit and have a GPA of 2.75.) In addition, international students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 for the paper exam or 79 on the Internet-based exam. Official transcripts and English translations (if applicable) are also required of all applicants.
