Experience the World of Global Business Travel Management

Around the World in 80 Hours is a certified, hands-on, global immersion training and development programme focused exclusively on global business travel management.

Travel Professionals Gain additional market knowledge within select cities and regions via a customized itinerary that includes as many destinations as your schedule allows.
University Students Select an individual destination or apply for the comprehensive training programme. Each programme includes practical training/internship opportunities in addition to the activities below. Enrollment is competitive and a limited number of Student Fellowships (see below) are available.

Networking events with industry VIPs
Professional development opportunities
Site visits to key suppliers of business travel products and services
Optional cultural activities


All participants earn the ACTE Global Travel Executive Certification upon completion of the programme.

Fees

Individual Cities
$2,495 USD per city
Fees include city-specific programme activities, local transportation to/from appointments, several meals, and medical evacuation & travel insurance. Fees do not include airfare or hotel accommodations (access to deeply discounted accommodation rates is provided).
Full Programme for University Students
$24,995 USD
Includes all scheduled programme activities, intra-programme airfare for ACTE destinations, hotel accommodations (2 students per room), several meals, local transportation to/from appointments, medical evacuation & travel insurance. Visa costs and airfare to the starting city and return from final destination are not included.
Internship Programme (only)
$1,995 USD
Includes internship placement with a global business travel organization. Attempts will be made to match students according to preferences for certain geographic regions and/or industry categories (airlines, hotels, corporate travel departments, etc.) whenever possible. Employer is required to provide substantive work responsibilities and a physical workspace. Length of internship and employment terms are subject to determination between the intern and his/her hosting organization. Interested students should contact [email protected] for more information.

Day One:
Cultural excursion & city tour
Welcome dinner with programme participants and local VIPs

Day Two:

Economic, industry & cultural briefings
Travel Managers’ Benchmarking Roundtable with key corporate buyers in the local travel community

Day Three:

Airport tour
Industry updates from key sectors of the corporate travel industry, e.g., airlines, hotels, Travel Management Companies (TMCs), etc.

Day Four to Six:

Site visits and partner tours to key suppliers of business travel products and services, e.g., corporate payments, expense management tools, global distribution systems (GDS), online booking tools, hotel operations, etc.
Closing reception with programme participants and sponsor partners

Background

The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) is pleased to partner with the world’s best hospitality and tourism management programmes and leading suppliers of business travel products and services to award Around the World in 80 Hours Student Fellowships to distinguished university students who demonstrate an exceptional interest in corporate travel management and a commitment to working in the global business travel industry.

The 6-week programme offers unprecedented academic training, experiential learning and networking opportunities with industry leaders in global business centers throughout the world.

2014 Fellowship winners will be announced on or before 28-March for the May-June 2014 programme.

Fellowship Qualifications

To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following criteria:
Current enrollment as a 4th year undergraduate, recent university graduate, or graduate student from an accredited university; preference will be given to students with a demonstrated interest in global business or travel/hospitality management.
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 / 4.0 (or equivalent).
For non-native English speakers, a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (“TOEFL”); Note: A student who receives a 6.5 on the IELTS is exempt from taking the TOEFL.
A valid passport and visas to travel to the countries included on the programme.

Expectations of Fellowship Recipients

Fellowship recipients will be expected to:
Fund passport and visa costs, airfare to the beginning city and home from the final destination, and living expenses during the programme internship, where applicable. Out-of-pocket expenditures are estimated to be $2,000-3,000 USD.
Complete a substantive work product, e.g., business plan, industry forecast, market research, etc., for the designated industry partner that is funding the Fellowship. The specific work product will be defined by the Fellowship sponsor.
Accept an employment contract for up to 12 months with the industry partner that is funding the Fellowship (with the option of transitioning to a permanent placement, if both parties are agreeable). BCD Travel, the funding partner for 2014, will provide more information about employment expectations during the interview process.

* Specific terms and conditions will be clarified in a written agreement between the Fellowship winner and the funding industry partner.

Fellowship Application Process

Fellowship applicants will comply with the following application process. All materials may be scanned and emailed to [email protected].
Review and agree to the Programme Code of Conduct & Participation Guidelines.
Complete the Programme Application on or before 28-February-2014 for the May–June 2014 programme.
Submit a curriculum vitae (CV).
Submit a university transcript.
Submit two (2) letters of recommendation. Recommendation letters must be from individuals, e.g., a university professor, a former supervisor, or other non-family member, who can serve as a personal or professional reference for you.

Enrollment is competitive and students will be notified of the status of their application within 30 days of submission.
