This session provides a solid platform from which to understand and communicate the key issues related to carbon emissions and managed travel. Designed for travel, procurement, and corporate social responsibility managers, this session explores the drivers of airline emissions, compares the emission profiles of trains, planes, and cars, reveals early benchmarks of several major managed travel programs, and discusses the options for managing emissions in a socially responsible way.
Sustainability as a corporate philosophy is gaining increased awareness, but translating the philosophy into a practice is more difficult to achieve. Many corporate travel purchasers include generic “green questions” in their RFPs that lack clear objectives, deferring to the vendor to decipher what the purchaser desires. This session will focus on:

Governments and companies are becoming increasingly informed of the impacts travel can have on not just the environment, but the bottom line, their productivity, and CSR policies. By deconstructing the principles of Sustainable Development, and communicating these to potential suppliers though a sustainable procurement process, the UK Government aspires to become a European leader in sustainable procurement by 2009. David describes how UK Government Procurement Policy is embracing the concept of Sustainable Development and reviews the recommendations from the Sustainable Procurement Advisory Committee. Human trafficking is on the rise, enslaving large numbers of people, particularly women and children, trapping them in sexual servitude and other forms of involuntary labor. The human trafficking industry is global, sophisticated and profitable. It has close and pernicious ties to other criminal networks. Its spread is virtually unchecked as efforts to catch and prosecute traffickers, alert potential victims and aid the recovery of rescued victims continues to be woefully inadequate to the challenge. New thinking and approaches are needed and no prior knowledge of the issue is assumed. ACTE urges companies to develop internal training and public awareness programs to combat this issue. ACTE is committed to working with our stakeholders to encourage them to sign the appropriate treaties and conventions. Atlanta Global Education Conference, May 7-9
