TSA - CAPPS II TASK FORCE

FOCUS:

  • Short Term
    • Increase ACTE members' understanding of the CAPPSII program and its potential impact
    • Solicit ACTE members' input and suggestions regarding the CAPPSII program
    • Provide formal comments to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on the CAPPSII program.

  • On-Going
    • Strengthen ACTE's role as a key constituent and informational/research resource to TSA
    • Represent ACTE's position (based on member input) on key safety and security issues to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and TSA

  • March 2004 - ACTE Executive Director Encourages Registered Traveler Program Click here for details.
  • March 16, 2004 - In letter to Congress ACTE Executive Director, Nancy Holtzman, rejects current CAPPS II. Click here for details.
  • February 20, 2004 - ACTE announces plans to convene Advisory Group of travel managers and Corporate Privacy Officers to provide input to TSA on the potential impact of CAPPS II on corporate information privacy policies. Click here for details.
  • February 2004 - ACTE conducts 3rd CAPPS II member survey to assess support, objections, and concerns.
  • February 2004 - ACTE issues press release supporting GAO report on CAPPS II status.
  • February 2004 - ACTE meets with TSA to relay member concerns regarding current CAPPS II system and to stress need for more open communication regarding the system.
  • February 2004 - ACTE conducts 3rd CAPPS II member survey to assess support, objections, and concerns.
  • September 2003 - ACTE submits formal comments to TSA in response to the Privacy Notice issued August 1, 2003 (Docket No. DHS/TSA-2003-1)
  • September 2003 - ACTE conducts 2nd CAPPS II member survey to measure support, objections, and comments on the program modifications proposed by TSA in July 2003.
  • August 2003 - ACTE meets with Stephen J. McHale, Deputy Under Secretary of Transportation for Management and Policy of the Transportation Security Administration, to emphasized its membership's concerns about the CAPPS II program, and offered association resources in resolving these issues. TSA solicits ACTE's comments on the proposed CAPPS II modifications.
  • September 2003 - ACTE and TSA initiate monthly briefings on key issues.
  • July 2003 - ACTE applauds TSA announcement to scale back passenger information collected as part of CAPPS II.
  • March 2003 - ACTE sends letter to TSA Head, Honorable J.M. Loy stressing CAPPS II privacy concerns expressed in the member survey.
  • February 2003 - ACTE conducts member survey to determine support for CAPPS II, objections, and comments.
