ACTE Speaks To The Industry On The Registered Traveler Program

Alexandria, VA (March 24, 2004) While the rest of the industry seemed surprised at the Transportation Safety Administrations announcement that the registered traveler program had become a new priority, ACTE responded with candor... And from a position of strength.

Quoted by Ryan Singel in Wired Magazine, ACTE Executive Director Nancy Holtzman spelled out corporate Americas initial assessment of the "registered traveler" program :

"From the start, ACTE's membership has always favored a registered traveler-type alternative to long airport security lines. In at least two surveys, our U.S. membership overwhelmingly preferred the voluntary nature of a registered traveler program over more invasive programs. Even the cost issue was favorably received -- though an assessment has yet to be presented to the industry," said Nancy Holtzman, Executive Director of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives.

"The voluntary nature of the registered travel program could also side-step privacy concerns for many travelers. And even though some issues may remain with corporate privacy policies, the onus of resolution would most likely pass to an agreement between the traveler and the corporation," said Holtzman. "The convenience of not having to stand in a long airport security line has a definite value for business travelers."

"We have provided the Transportation Safety Administration with recommendations and suggestions for setting up a registered traveler program. We started working with the TSA on this issue more than a year ago. Some of our members have also expressed a willingness to help the TSA with testing," Holtzman added.
