Strategic Travel Management
Changes are occurring to the way travel is managed. Organizations are redefining the way they source, manage, pay and process T&E; costs. And as businesses continue to keep travel budgets at depressed levels the ability to deliver savings consistently will require that travel managers reshape their supplier programs, traveler services, work processes and tools in innovative ways using unconventional methods. In other words, "business as usual" will not sustain success. This track will explore the qualities of creative leadership from a global perspective and delve into specific areas where a strategic approach can yield significant cost-savings and "value-adds" to travel managers and their companies.

Jagdish Parikh, Social Thinker - Businessman

- Visions of the Future - Travel Industry Scenarios and Strategic Planning
One of the big problems in all businesses is the necessity of making a decision now, knowing that the implications of that decision will play out over a time far, far longer than the time over which we can have any feeling of certainty. The decision by Airbus, for example, to build its monster jet commits Airbus for decades. And if, for whatever reason, the demand for air transport collapses, or - more subtly - doesn’t collapse, but moves towards smaller airframes, then Airbus could well go broke. But if it doesnt, they will gain a major advantage over arch-rival Boeing. How can such decisions be taken wisely? Is it a hunch? The whim or driving will of the CEO? Or maybe a roll of the dice? How can we sensibly take decisions, and plan, under conditions of uncertainty? This session will begin to lay the framework for an ongoing ACTE initiative on building travel industry scenarios or histories-in-advance that will create a context in which individual organizations across the travel management spectrum can formulate individual business strategies.
Presenter:
Dennis Sherwood, Managing Director, The Silver Bullet Machine Co, Ltd.
- Multi-Market Servicing in EMEA
Many travel purchasers consider multi-market consolidation as the next big step in driving down operational costs and increasing process efficiency across Europe. Is this fact or fiction? Is automation and consolidation into fewer travel centres the name of the game? How do the complexities of cross-border issues and regulations in Europe impact your ability to consolidate? Does one solution fit all? How did this fit with the drive to on-line? What strategy is best suited for your firm?
- Meetings Consolidation - New Opportunities for Cost Savings
According to advocates, planning meetings with the same purchasing disciplines as corporate travel procurement can help companies save 10 to 30 percent, including incremental savings on group travel, and may introduce interesting synergies for the purchase of transient business. This interactive session will examine how meetings are qualified, savings potential, the need for a positive, solid, value based relationship with your critical venue suppliers and technology options to support meetings management at both the strategic and tactical level.
