President-Elect Role & Responsibilities

As of April 2007

The President-elect is the second-ranking officer of ACTE and serves at the order of the Board and the membership. The President-elect assumes the Presidency at the conclusion of his or her term. The President-elect's efforts are directed to assisting the President and in assuming the Presidency. Assignments are designed and designated with this purpose in mind. The President-Elect is actively involved in supporting the President in fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Board of Directors by providing continuity to established programs and formulating future programs for which they will take responsibility for during their presidency.

The President-elect assumes all duties and responsibilities of the President in the event the President is absent or unable to perform the President’s duties.

The President-elect assists the President in fulfilling the President’s role by sharing specific duties and responsibilities as delegated by the President. The President-elect also serves as an alternate spokesperson for the Association.

Key Responsibilities

The President-elect will perform the following duties and responsibilities in addition to those duties, relationships, requirements, and expectations delineated in the position description for Board of Directors Members:

  • Assume the responsibilities of the President in the absence of the President
  • Serve as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee
  • Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and membership
  • Accept responsibilities delegated by the President, such as representing the President at meetings, and any other duties as appropriate to the presidency
  • Share with the President visits to Association events throughout the various regions
  • Make recommendations to the Board of Directors in appointing committee chairs and members
  • Provide continuity of programs already implemented and help to develop future priorities
  • Develop plans and lay groundwork for implementation of plans for President-Elect’s presidential year
  • Chair a special short-term task force to complete specific assignments of the Board
  • Become familiar with the responsibilities of the President, the activities, and positions of the Association, and the functions of the staff
  • Be informed, knowledgeable and able to speak on the current conditions and operations of ACTE

Board Meetings 4 Board meetings per year requiring travel:
  • January: Strategic Planning Meeting (2-day meeting)
  • April/May: Board Meeting (1-day meeting before Spring Global conference)
  • June/July: Strategic Planning Meeting (2 day meeting)
  • October: Board Meeting (1-day meeting before Fall Global conference)
  • Board Conference Calls
  • 4 pre-scheduled conference calls, one week prior to each Board meeting (2 hours each on duration)
  • Ad-hoc conference calls throughout the year (4-6 calls, approximately 1 hour in duration)
  • Preparation for Board meetings & Board Calls
  • 1 day per year
  • Executive Committee Calls
  • 1-hour calls held monthly (1 hour per month)
  • Budget Preparation & Review
  • ½ day per year
  • Sponsorship
  • Assist staff is obtaining sponsorship funds (1 hour per month)
  • Work on assigned Board projects, committees, task forces, and initiatives.
  • Time will vary depending upon type of requested activity (estimate 1-2 hours per month)
  • Conferences
  • Attendance at two global conferences (3 days each plus travel)
  • Executive Forums
  • Attendance at 3-4 Executive Forums
  • PR, press Interviews & media Activities
  • ½ hour per month
  • Interaction with Executive Director and staff
  • 1 hour per month

    24-27 days per year (plus travel time)

    Other

    Expenses: Expenses related to attendance at Board meetings, ACTE Conferences, and other ACTE events are the responsibility of each Board member or Officer (or their company). ACTE will cover expenses for the official ACTE representative (President, President-elect, or assigned Board member) to attend events or meetings outside the required Board meetings or events. Board member expenses for these events will be covered only if approved by the President.

    Confidentiality: Each member of the ACTE Board of Directors is required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement before taking office and each January during their term.
