In March 2008, Open Skies will take effect. What are the various implications of this new legislation? How will it affect not only carriers, but also consumers? Will there be new service? Will there be lower fares? This forum is specifically designed to provide valuable insight and answers to these pressing questions concerning the future of air travel in Europe.

The New Frontier: Open Skies

March 2008 is the beginning of a new kind of air travel thanks to Open Skies legislation. A leading industry expert will provide a keynote presentation beginning with an overview and focusing on the implications to the Amsterdam International Airport, especially:

  • Potential for new service
  • Infrastructure issues related to capacity
  • Schiphol’s status as a “fortress hub” for KLM.

Dr. Pablo Mendes de Leon, Professor in Air and Space Law, Universtiteit van Leiden

Dr. Mendes de Leon is the Director of Air Law Research of the International Institute of Air and Space law, and lectures private international air law and competition law in the LL.M. programme of the Institute.

Open Skies legislation is set to become effective in March 2008. This could mean big changes on daily business, procurement and supply processes, transportation sector (air to ground evolution) or business could continue as usual. Listen and interact to learn about answers to these questions and more.

Peter Beulink, OORzaken

After his graduation from Nyenrode Business University, Peter Beulink worked for a period of 11 years before moving onto the travel industry. He most recently worked as the managing director of the Road Air Travel Group. As a member of the board of Algemene Nederlandse Vereniging van Reisondernemingen (ANVR) he was always an advocate of education and training in the travel industry.

Peter is currently mentoring students of NHTV (Breda University of Professional Education) in their final projects. From January 1st of this year, Peter started his own company "OORzaken" (EARaffairs).

The push to reduce costs is continuously moving along the distribution chain. Not all costs of distribution are apparent, explore the “hidden” costs in a distribution chain and some of the tools available to track and minimize your costs. Hear from an industry panel and come prepared to ask questions in this interactive session.

Huub Smeets has extensive travel management experience. He was one of the co-founders of the Philips global T&E program and has also worked for companies like IBM and Rockwell Automation. Huub is currently employed by BMC Software and is stationed at their Amsterdam based European HQ. As Director he has a dual responsibility. Within EMEA he is responsible for Procurement and globally for travel. He has served as VP Global Development for ACTE as well as co-chair of the ACTE Global Millennium Amsterdam 2000 conference and has been speaking at various ACTE and Procurement related conferences.
