Sessions ACTE Global Barcelona brings keynote speakers whose expertise includes strategy and execution, future technologies and globalisation. These speakers, keen observers of global business trends, add unique and historical perspectives to any discussion on the drivers impacting the business travel Industry. Frank-Jürgen Richter Fmr. Director, World Economic Forum, Asian Affairs & President, Horasis Globalisation: Business Strategies for 2020 and Beyond Compliments of SkyTeam Anticipating and interpreting trends in the outside world are necessary to develop sustainable corporate strategies in order to obtain an accurate reading of the long-term drivers that impact our future. China’s and India’s rise to global eminence will have enormous repercussions on Europe and North America. How will the world in 2020 (… 2050) look like? How can the ‘West’ deal with this seismic shift in the economic epicenter? Are win-win constellations imaginable? Frank-Jürgen Richter paints a vivid portrait of the strategies required for success in this New World Order and how the travel industry must adjust today in order to grasp the opportunities of tomorrow. Daniel Calleja y Crespo Director, Air Transport Department Directorate-General for Energy and Transport European Commission What’s on the Blue Horizon?: The Future of Air Transport Over the past twenty years, air travel in the European Union has seen phenomenal growth. In turn, this has created enormous challenges in terms of saturation levels reached at airports, an overloaded air traffic control system, and a permanent emphasis on safety concerns. Airlines complain about the fragmentation of European airspace, which, they say, leads to inefficiency and major delays costing the industry between €1.3 and €1.9 billion a year and limiting access for new entrants. Daniel Calleja y Crespo will address the Commission’s current initiatives to contend with these myriad challenges, including the status of Air Service Agreements worldwide and the balance between a regulatory vs free market approach (i.e. EU/US, China/Asia, the ASEAN Common Market, Latin American aviation alliances, etc.); improved aircraft positioning and communication technologies such as GALILEO and SESAME; and sustainable mobility initiatives and passenger rights issues in the EU and their impact on the travel and transport industry. Rafael Ramirez Fellow in Strategic Management Said Business School, Oxford University How Our Industry Will Change: Implosion, Invasion, Explosion – Or All Of The Above? Compliments of British Airways How did General Motors become the biggest household bank in the U.S. last century? Why is Nokia the biggest seller of cameras today? Industries, like all systems of value creation, change in fairly predicable ways as “innovators” (i.e. Southwest Airlines) or “invaders” (i.e. Apple in the music business) reshape the components parts of existing industries into “new” ones offering new value propositions. The question for managers is how to understand the future of change and distinguish between the changes that they can make and the changes that happen to them. Rafael Ramirez, a distinguished author, professor and consultant on business strategy and innovation, illustrates how effective change management requires a futurist and a historian and how you can learn to be both. Featured Speaker ![]() Director of Purchasing and Supply Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Sustainable Procurement In the past many companies have focused on industry as the primary source of carbon emissions, however there is a growing realisation that transportation can account for a significant proportion of an organisation’s carbon footprint. Governments and companies are becoming increasingly informed of the impacts travel can have on not just the environment, but the bottom line, their productivity, and CSR policies. By deconstructing the principles of Sustainable Development, and communicating these to potential suppliers though a sustainable procurement process, the UK Government aspires to become a European leader in sustainable procurement by 2009. David describes how UK Government Procurement Policy is embracing the concept of Sustainable Development and reviews the recommendations from the Sustainable Procurement Task Force. Conference Moderator Michael Jackson Managing Director, Zebra Crossing Michael Jackson returns as Conference Moderator. Jackson will facilitate and summarise each of the general sessions, keeping the focus on the Conference themes and objectives, providing seamless transitions, and ensure a lively exchange of views. |
