A recent survey conducted by ACTE revealed that one third of travel managers would consider terminating contracts of suppliers with poor environmental records. As stated by Greeley Koch, ACTE president, “It is clear that business travel has a big impact on the environment and we feel it is our responsibility to raise awareness among our members.”
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, recipient of the 2006 Global Tourism Business Award, developed the company’s Green Partnership program, designed to minimize the hotels’ operating impacts on the environment. The program focuses on improvements in the areas of waste management, energy and water conservation, as well as a strong element of community outreach through local groups and partnerships.
