Alexandria, VA --
Business and security management were the focus of an Executive Forum, The New Face of Business Intelligence, organized by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) in Milan at the Starhotels Rosa last month. The event attracted 76 attendees, with nearly half of the audience consisting of corporate buyers.
“I was very pleased with the attendance at the Milan event, and the enthusiastic response of the delegates attending the ACTE Executive Forum,” Christine Dunton-Tinnus, ACTE Regional Director Western, Southern and West Central Europe, said. “Italy is an important growth region in Europe for the business travel industry, which ACTE has recognized for some time. We will focus our efforts in 2009 on continuing to grow our membership in this country, and expand our education programs.”
A roundtable discussion, moderated by Andrea Guizzardi, Professor of Statistics at the University of Bologna, focused on the topic of business intelligence. “Data is very important for corporations – it helps them to better manage their travel business and to create an historical archive,” he said. “To be effective, data management has to be fully integrated with the organizational model of corporations, as well as with the various contractual issues.”
Risk management is one of the most hidden, yet critical, issues for business travel managers. Dr. Nicola Remshardt, Italian Representative of Europäische Reiseversicherung AG, gave a presentation on Security and Insurance. “Travel security is no longer just in the headlines or on the news,” she said. “Today, it has become a consistent part of the travel manager’s job, as well as an area of influence for them.”
She added, “The next step will be the development of issues related to risk management, focusing on the legal responsibility of corporations vs. the travelling employees. As an industry, we will be called upon in the near future to identify new best practice solutions.”
Noted Elena Conforti, Facility Manager at Merloni Progetti, “I think ACTE reached its goal at this event to offer education and support on such an important topic. After this Executive Forum, I will carry ideas back with me to help me update and complete my company’s security policy.”
In 2008, ACTE held several educational events in Italy, including its Global Education Conference in Rome, 5-7 October, the largest European business travel event of the year.
ACTE will hold another Executive Forum in Milan in September 2009.
