Alexandria, Va --
Advanced concepts in managed travel, traveller safety and security, and sustainability were the topics of the first PowerTalk hosted by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) in Tokyo on 3 December. The half-day executive briefing on key issues in the region drew 65 attendees, with 31 percent corporate buyers from some of the best known companies in the world.
"The ACTE PowerTalk was the ideal stage for Tokyo's corporate travel buyers and their supply partners to connect on mutual interests,” Kenneth Phua, ACTE Regional Director, Asia-Pacific, said. “This event has created tremendous enthusiasm among attendees to build a network of business travel management professionals in Japan who, collectively, have the opportunity to raise practice standards and make a difference where it is needed most in the industry."
Ishii-san, General Manager of International SOS Japan provided insights on key aspects of traveller security and duty of care, while Dr. Fujii, a professor from Tokyo Institute of Technology, delivered a lively presentation on Sustainable Travel for Japan's business travel industry – air travel, ground transportation and even commuting within major Japanese cities.
Noted Dr. Fujii, "Sustainable travel has to be an integral part of doing business if there is to be any measurable improvement in the health of the natural environment. The strategies have to go beyond just air travel; it has to account for ground transportation and daily business commuting by employees."
Keiko Sund, head of the ACTE Japan PowerTalk Committee and Country Travel Representative, Cargill Japan, closed the session by encouraging attendees to build on this first meeting among customers and service-providers by continuing a dialogue with each other.
This first of its kind ACTE PowerTalk presented a neutral platform, which was ideal for members of Japan’s business travel industry to network and learn more about new developments that can influence how both customers and suppliers will operate.
