Alexandria, Va --
A student group from the University of Lugano (USI), Switzerland, pursuing masters degrees in International Tourism, will attend the Association of Corporate Travel Executives' (ACTE) Global Education Conference in Rome, 5-7 October. This is the first time the University of Lugano is participating in an ACTE conference.
“ACTE’s mission is to provide global and regional leadership for the advancement of the business travel industry through the exchange of knowledge, opportunity and the pursuit of excellence,” Christine R. Dunton-Tinnus, Regional Director, Western, Southern and West Central Europe, said. “Part of this mission, and one of ACTE´s initiatives, is to ensure and support the development of necessary knowledge and skills for the next generation of international corporate travel professionals. ACTE is honored to play an instrumental role in their education.”
Noted Dr. Rico Maggi, Professor and Director of the Istituto Ricerche Economiche (IRE), Faculty of Economics, University of Lugano, "The Association of Corporate Travel Executives is an important organization in global professional education. We are glad that this year, our students who are pursuing a Masters in International Tourism, will have the unique opportunity to participate in the ACTE conference. This event will certainly provide them with relevant learning opportunities and a platform for the fruitful exchange of ideas. We look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership with ACTE," he added.
According to two global surveys conducted by management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, respondents regarded finding talented people as likely to be the single most important managerial preoccupation for the rest of the decade. In addition, nearly half of the respondents expect intensifying competition for talent – and the increasingly global nature of that competition – to have a major effect on their companies over the next five years. No other global trend was considered nearly as significant.
A student group from ESCAET, France’s International Business School of Travel Management, attended an ACTE Executive Forum in Paris last December. ACTE’s initiative to support Talent Management in the industry, in collaboration with educational institutions around the world, began at its 2007 Global Education Conference in Munich, with the participation of a group of students from the Berufsakademie in Ravensburg, Germany.
On 17 September, Patrice Pourchet, Director MSGAI, ESSEC Business School and Marie Poulain, Director, ESCAET MBA Spécialisé Management du Tourisme will speak at an ACTE Executive Forum in Paris, Recent Economic Developments and Its Impact on Business Travel.
International tourism has become one of the world economy’s major industries. The World Travel and Tourism Council predicts that between now and 2013, the tourism and hospitality industries will generate 250 million jobs, consisting of approximately 10 percent of total world employment.
