Alexandria, Va --
Alexandria, Va. (4 Aug. 2008) – Business travel managers in Asia will have a first-hand look at a powerful cost-containment practice that is moving to the forefront of the business travel industry – demand management – at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives’ (ACTE) Asia-Pacific Education Conference, on 20-21 August, 2008. The education session, “Demand Management: Managing The Consumption of Business Travel,” will be presented by Wayne Koh, Asia-Pacific Travel Manager, Autodesk Inc. and Leigh Garvan, Regional Head of Travel – Asia-Pacific, Deutsche Bank. It will address identifying non-essential travel, available travel alternatives, and creating new policy components incorporating both of these elements.
Demand management incorporates new lower cost technology options with a new philosophy that combines cost-analysis, productivity, and lowering the carbon footprint of corporate travel in one package, while restoring the life/work equilibrium for travellers.
“ACTE has been providing case study examples and guidelines to implement demand management for travel spend optimization over the last decade,” said Susan Gurley, ACTE Executive Director. “With the changes and improvements in demand management technology, a corporate travel manager today must understand how to effectively use demand management in complementing their air travel program. Combined with revenue-generating air travel, demand management technology can save time and money.”
Initial ACTE research dating back to 2006 indicates that 40 percent of some companies’ travel is for internal meetings, and generates no revenue. Demand management uses a suitable, and far less expensive, travel alternative to accomplish these meeting ob
To support its members' efforts, ACTE has included a demand management educational session in each of its major conferences for the past two years. The topic of demand management has also been the focus of several regional ACTE Executive Forums held throughout the world. ACTE recently posted a special website section dedicated to the research and implementation of demand management at www.acte.org/content/demand_management.
