Alexandria, Va. -- The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) announced today that Everardo Elizondo, noted Mexican economist and Deputy Governor, Banco de México, will speak at the association’s Executive Forum in Mexico City on 2 July 2008. Elizondo will give an overview of the current Mexican economy, the forecast for the coming year, and the effect of the United States economy on Mexico.
“ACTE is honored to have someone of Everardo Elizondo’s caliber and credentials as the headline speaker at our Mexico City educational event,” Hector de los Santos, ACTE Regional Manager, Mexico & Central America, said. “As its southern neighbor, Mexico, and its economy, has a profound and direct influence on the United States. We look forward to hearing Everardo’s Latin American perspective, and his insights on Mexico’s special relationship with the United States.”
In 1998, Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo invited Elizondo to become a member of the board of governors of the Banco de México. In 2000, the Senate of the Republic approved President Vicente Fox Quesada's nomination of Elizondo for the position of Deputy Governor, a term which ends in December 2008.
After earning a bachelor's degree with honors in economics from the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, Elizondo earned a master's degree and a Ph.D., both in economics, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States. In addition, he has a degree in taxation from Harvard University.
A renowned economics and finance columnist for more than 25 years, Elizondo writes a biweekly column in the Mexican newspapers El Norte and Reforma, and is a contributing editor to El Economista, academic books and periodicals. He has been a member of the board of directors of several Mexican institutions such as the Universidad Mexicana del Noreste, Grupo Senda, Farmacias Benavides and Grupo Financiero Banorte.
Latin American speakers featured at other ACTE global events include Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Holdings S.A., the parent company of Panamanian carrier Copa Airlines and Colombian carrier AeroRepública, and Mexican Ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhan.
