-- Alexandria, Va. (Dec. 19, 2007) – A student group from ESCAET, France's International Business School of Travel Management, attended the Association of Corporate Travel Executives' (ACTE) Forum in Paris, a first for both the school and the association. ACTE's Paris Executive Forum was held on 17 December at the Pullman Paris Rive Gauche, Paris.
"The students' participation in the Paris Executive Forum signals the beginning of further collaborations with ACTE and other educational institutions around the world, an idea that began at the Munich Global Education Conference this year," Jerome Drevon-Barreaux, ACTE Europe Regional Chair and moderator of the event, said. "These students represent the next generation of international corporate travel professionals, and we feel it is an honor and a privilege to play an instrumental role in their education."
Noted Lucien Isnard, Travel Procurement manager for EDF Group, the leading electricity producer in Europe, and president of CDAF travel chapter (Association Nationale des Professionnels des Achats), "We applaud ACTE for their initiative in inviting this student group to their event. ACTE is taking the lead role in educating the next generation in all aspects of business travel supply. In 2008, CDAF and ACTE will continue to work together to develop the most meaningful agenda not only for students, but for the business travel industry."
A total of 102 travel industry professionals and 10 students from ESCAET attended the event, with corporates accounting for 54 percent.
At ACTE’s Paris Executive Forum, business travel managers throughout France had the opportunity to discuss the impact of sustainability and global warming, as well as the individual components that make up the total cost of a trip.
The realities of global warming were addressed, practical measures were given on carbon offsetting and reduction, and the issue of "green taxes," which are now being targeted to business travel in Europe, was discussed.
The forum also enabled participants to put a cash value or cost amount on some of the more elusive components of the business trip process, and showed them how to identify hidden costs, evaluate the impact on their respective travel programs, and formulate strategies to minimize that impact.
Presenters included representatives from EDF, Veolia Environment, Unisys, Edgar, Dunn & Company, Green Cross International, Amadeus France, easyjet, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Goodplanet.org, SFR (Société Française du Radiotéléphone) and ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency) and IATA Europe.
