For Immediate Release
29 August 2007
Alexandria, VA -- The fall semester for business travel management professionals in Canada offers four educational events from the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE). Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal will each host an ACTE PowerTalk, a highly condensed presentation in which one topic is discussed at length. According to Annemarie Reininger, ACTE Canada's Regional Chair, this program will cover a broad range of topics dealing with technology, culture, trends, and resources.
"ACTE Canada's Education Team has taken the pulse of the industry here and translated it into four highly animated discussion groups that will put each topic into a Canadian perspective," said Reininger. "Each of these presentations is an important prelude to the ACTE Canada Education Conference in Calgary, 18-20 November 2007."
The four PowerTalks are:
12 September, 2007 -- Ottawa
Biometrics -- Dispelling the Myths
Biometrics constitute the basis of many new security programs, and are either touted as a great solution or the end of traveler privacy. This presentation will cover the mechanics of biometrics, what they can and can't do, can they be cheated, and what is their impact on the business travel industry and personal privacy. The session will also disclose where biometrics are being used in Canada and the difference between biometrics and forensics.
The event will be held at the Novotel Ottawa (33 Nicholas Street, Ottawa, Ontario, 613-230-3033).
18 September 2007 -- Toronto
Bridging the Cultural Gap
This presentation will focus on projecting an appropriate international image and increasing cross-cultural awareness and communication skills, including by email and telephone. Through expert advice and tips from leading professional image and etiquette consultant, Diane Craig, President, Corporate Class Inc., participants will gain insight and tools to develop stronger more successful international business relations. The event will be held at the Intercontinental Toronto Centre (225 Front Street West, Toronto, Ontario, 416-597-1400)
27 September 2007 -- Calgary
The Availability Crunch
Supply is taxing demand with regard to airline seats, hotel rooms, and surface transportation availability. This session will examine how hotel and rental car companies are managing their inventories, and how travel managers can work with suppliers for everyone's advantage. The panel presentation will include a discussion on possible strategies in place to alleviate the crunch in the future.
This PowerTalk is being held at the International Hotel Suites Calgary, (220-4th Avenue SW, Calgary, 403-265-9600).
3 October 2007 -- Montreal
The Evolving Trends In Business Travel: Just Another Cycle Or Something New
In this presentation, McGill's Professor Louis Gialloreto will pinpoint the travel industry's location in the current business cycle, describing the impact of the internet on the profession, detailing steps suppliers are taking to differentiate their products, and predicting the next level of development. Corporate Travel buyers have also been invited to participate in a "Corporate Chat" to discuss topics of special interest.
This event will be held at the Marriott SpringHill Suites/Old Montreal (445 Rue Sant-Jean Baptiste, Montreal, Quebec)
