Alexandria, VA -- A substantial number of business travel buyers and supplier representing the Indian corporate travel industry will be convening at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives’ (ACTE) Asia-Pacific Conference in Singapore, 22-23 August 2007. This increase reflects the recent upswing in market growth of India to the industry – both regionally and globally.
India, which has been featured in the Lonely Planet's Survey on Interest in Sustainable Travel Options and annual Travellers' Pulse Survey for the past four years running, has been said to potentially account for over US$5.4 trillion in business in recent years. In the 2005 Travellers' Pulse Survey, India ranked fifth among destinations that 20,000 travellers said they would most like to visit next. Additionally, India's outbound traveler segment grew to reach nearly 6 million in 2004, which is up from 4.8 million in 2003. An annual growth of 8.8percent is expected between 2004 and 2014 within the travel industry.
"ACTE feels this increased interest in regional educational and networking activities reflects the current position and growth of India within the travel sector along with ACTE's increased presence throughout the region. In today’s global market industry players are recognizing the need to strengthen regional ties and focus on regional concerns,” said Susan Gurley, ACTE Global Executive Director. “In the past year, ACTE’s membership in the Asia-Pacific region has increased exponentially. We are expanding international education, networking and advocacy programs, all of which has directly resulted from regional demand for strategically focused educational programmes.”
2006 reflected a vast amount of growth in India internet travel. According to the Centre For Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) recent survey of almost 2,000 passengers at major airports in India, fundamental trends in passenger behaviour have emerged in the context of India’s Low Cost Carrier (LCC) revolution and India’s developing economy. CAPA found that 43percent of LCC passengers in India bought their tickets over the internet and 48perecnt of LCC passengers in India used a credit card to pay for their ticket. With the Indian airline industry witnessing a growth of just under 20percent in the last five years, this current trend of online momentum will continue giving India the opportunity to distribute itself globally via this new technology.
Ed Cohen, Senior Vice President of the India headquartered Satyam School of Leadership and Satyam Computer Services, Ltd., will offer the keynote presentation, “Traverse the Divide”. Dr. Cohen’s discussion will examine how businesses in today’s borderless global marketplace face unprecedented challenges, requiring them to revived innovation and accomplishments by utilizing tactics for empowering a diversified workforce operating in different countries, cultures and time zones. Conference delegates for India can expect to take away in-depth knowledge of the current Asia-Pacific economy that can turn regional business executives into global leaders.
