Miami, FL --
Convening during the Association of Corporate Travel Executives' (ACTE) Global Conference in Miami, ACTE's International Board of Directors adjusted the organization's regional structure in response to membership growth and market importance to the industry. Both Latin America and Middle East & Africa will now have their own board representatives on the ACTE Board of Directors. ACTE's six regions now are: Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe, Latin America, Middle East & Africa, and the U.S.
"This move reflects ACTE's presence in each of these areas, which is a direct result of our expanding international education, networking and advocacy programs," said Susan Gurley, ACTE's Global Executive Director. "In the past year, ACTE's membership in Latin America has grown by 500 percent!" She added that demand for similar strategically focused educational programming in Africa and the Middle East clearly presented a need to regard this area as its own region.
ACTE's growing involvement with the European Union and emerging markets such as Russia and the Newly Independent States, Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria has placed a greater emphasis on its presence there, and led to the decision that Europe would now be a stand-alone region, as opposed to part of the previous Europe, Middle East, and Africa grouping. Just last week the association was invited to testify before the European Commission hearings on a revised CRS (Computerized Reservations Systems) code of conduct -- the only global business travel management association to do so.
Both Latin America and the Middle East & Africa Regions will elect Board representatives in the next elections.
