Alexandria, VA -- The Canadian Business Travel Association – West (CBTA West) will merge with the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE), following an overwhelming vote in favor of the motion. According to a statement by CBTA West President Russell Friend, the motion carried by more than a five to one margin.
“ACTE provides our members with timely and proactive educational material, as well as critical new resources essential for maintaining a strong voice in government and industry,” said Friend. “This was a key issue for our members.”
The merger will bring 69 additional members to ACTE Canada’s rolls, with others anticipated to follow in the transitional stages. This is the second straight year that the association has posted double-digit membership growth in Canada. A merger with the CBTA East last year brought ACTE another surge of membership for similar reasons.
“We’re delighted to welcome CBTA West to ACTE,” said association Executive Director Susan Gurley. “ACTE is a global team effort and the team gets stronger with the ideas and opinions of each new member.” Gurley added that ACTE’s commitment to Canada has been expanded from year to year, recently culminating in the first Canada National Education Conference last November.
The vote for merger was the first step in a process to merge with ACTE immediately following the current CBTA West season, which ends June 2007.
