Amsterdam, The Netherlands -- The forum, entitled "The High-Wire Art of Strategic Alliances, Value Creation, Solutions & Meetings Management", drew guest presenters from AirPlus International, Flightstats Europe, Philips Electronics, the Schiphol Group, CWT Events EMEA and key presenter John Fentener van Vlissingen, President of BCD Holdings.
A highlight of the event was the speech by Mr. Vlissingen, President of BCD Holdings who advised "It was my pleasure to accept the invitation to speak at the ACTE Executive Forum and tell an audience of travel industry experts why I decided in 1987 to enter the travel business and explain the ten reasons why it is exiting for our family company to stay in this growing industry."
In the 30,000-foot view of meetings management, Todd Kramer of CWT identified that although $120 billion is spent on meetings in Europe alone, over 70% of corporations cannot identify how much is spent on meeting expenses within their organisations. Todd highlighted that travel procurers are now starting to analyze this area to consolidate the purchasing process as they do with business travel, and advised that a phased approach to buying in this area will be the most cost effective.
Hendrik J. Noorderhaven from Flightstats Europe explored the impact that the more than 25% of scheduled flights that are delayed or cancelled had on business travel. This led into a session that focused on Schiphol Airport, presented by Dr. Joop Krul, Director Airport Development for the Schiphol Group. The Schiphol Airport was looked to as a model for an international airport that serves as a primary transit point for a hub carrier.
ACTE is planning on continuing these discussions at additional forums in 2007.
