For Immediate Release
12 September 2005
Dear ACTE Member:
As promised, we wanted to keep you informed
of resources that are available to the travel industry impacted
by Hurricane Katrina. We have been in touch with the Travel
Business Roundtable (TBR) who asked that we let our members
know about the creation of a free, on-line job bank that will
launch this Thursday, September 15, 2005. Please see www.katrinajobs.org.
The new on-line job bank will help those
workers find new employment as soon as possible. Travel and
tourism companies from all over the country will be posting
available jobs to the site. Many of the skills required for
travel and tourism jobs are highly transferable to other industries.
A hotel bellman, for example, could load lumber at a Home
Depot Store. A restaurant maitre 'd, for example, could work
in a corporate meetings department or for an event-planning
firm.
There will be a press conference on Wednesday,
September 14th at 11 a.m. at the National Press Club in Washington,
DC announcing the job bank; the site will go live on the 15th.
We would like to take this opportunity to
encourage you and your colleagues to submit jobs before the
press conference by emailing the postings to [email protected].
After the site launches, companies will be able to post jobs
directly at www.katrinajobs.org.
The job bank is being being spearheaded by
TBR, the Travel Industry of America, and the Travel &
Tourism Coalition.
Sincerely,
Susan Gurley
Executive Director
Association of Corporate Travel Executives
