U.S. Department Of Homeland Security To Work With ACTE On Future Security and Transportation Issues

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will work with the Association of Corporate Travel Executives on future security projects and programs designed to facilitate travel according to a letter from C. Stewart Verdery, Jr., Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning. The letter followed an ACTE Webcast presentation to an audience of business travel management professionals, in which the assistant secretary detailed the workings and benefits of the "registered traveler" program. The webcast was especially pertinent as it was aired immediately before four of the five registered traveler pilot programs went on-line.

ACTE was the first major entity in the business travel industry to support the concept of a registered traveler program by initiative nearly two years ago. That initial stance has been supported by a number of follow-up surveys and studies, the most recent of which determined the dollar value travelers would pay to participate in this program ($99 and "none" being the predominant responses) and the position most companies took on reimbursement of that amount. The association polled more than 1,000 business travelers on the subject.

While future projects with Department of Homeland Security have yet to be defined, ACTE has maintained a close working relationship with the Transportation Security Administration. This exchange has worked to the advantage of association members by advancing information regarding privacy issues and the registered traveler program.
