ACTE Berlin's Forum to Lead Discussion on Travel Procurement and Changing Role of Travel Manager

London (January 6, 2005) -- The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) is ringing in the New Year by hosting a series of Executive Forums designed to probe key issues travel managers will face in 2005. On Feb. 21-22 ACTE members will meet in Berlin to discuss the effects of an expanded European Union, which last year opened its doors to 10 new member nations, including many countries from Central and Eastern Europe. The meeting will also focus on the impact of shifting travel purchasing from the travel manager to procurement department.

Edgar van Ommen, COO, Arabella Sheraton Hotels, and former Managing Director, Sony Berlin, will kick-off the meeting with a keynote discussion on Modern Principles of Business Management. Participants from Germany and neighbouring countries, as well as attendees from the new EU member states will share their experience and discuss how procurement disciplines can be successfully applied to business travel purchasing. Panellists from both sides of the fence, procurement department and travel managers, will debate who is best qualified to source and manage corporate travel buying.

Forum delegates will also take part in a multi-perspective discussion on hotel distribution. In addition, two security experts, representing both Eastern and Western Europe, will dispel the myths and clarify the reality about safety and security issues in the Eastern European region. The Berlin Forum will also tackle the thorny issue of air fare structures. During a roundtable discussion, attendees will have the chance to examine the underlying reasons for the increasing air fare complexities, including yield management algorithms and IATA rules.

ACTE will continue to address issues important to its members throughout the year, parlaying ideas one step further into actionable results. As part of its effort to better advance the business travel industry, ACTE constantly strives to collaborate with local associations and groups with like-minded objectives. The Feb. 17 Brussels Executive Forum, conjointly organized with the Belgian Association of Travel Managers, marks the first such collaborative effort in 2005.
