Travel Management in a Procurement Environment: Opportunity and Threat to your Business Role (both Buyers & Vendors)

Berlin
21 - 22 February 2005

Procurement and Travel are increasingly linked, that's why ACTE is collaborating with two major Procurement Associations to organize The Berlin Forum.

A Board Member from the German Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft Einkauf und Logistik (BME) will contribute to a panel session while the Austrian Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik.

The Berlin ACTE Executive Forum will be looking East, as 10 countries, many from Central- and Eastern Europe, joined the European Union in May.

Participants from Germany and neighbouring countries, as well as attendees from the new EC member states will share their experience and discuss how procurement disciplines can be successfully applied to business travel purchasing. Forum delegates will take part in a multi-perspective discussion on hotel distribution. It is often hard to separate facts from fiction when it comes to security issues in Eastern Europe. Two security experts, both Eastern and Western European, will dispel the myths and clarify the reality. Finally, the increasing complexity of air fares frustrates both TMCs and corporate travel managers. Berlin Forum participants will examine the underlying reasons--yield management and IATA rules--for a better understanding.

The event starts with a relaxed networking reception on Monday at 6:30pm, getting you ready for a full day of education the day after.

Make sure you plan your trip accordingly and enjoy Berlin!

9:05 Keynote Presentation: EC's expansion and its Impact on Business Travel
Christoph Klenner, a Consultant with Prisma, a public affairs consultancy focusing on EU policies related to transport, the environment and trade sector will start the day with a thought-provoking presentation.

Berlin being a perfect stage for East-West relations, Mr Klenner will draw the parallel between Ireland - initially a low-cost economy that now is a high-cost region - and the Central and Eastern European states in terms of the economic situation and of outsourcing activities. He will tell delegates how this will contribute to the future shape of the travel industry in the CEE region.

Mr Klenner will call on his aviation background to help participants understand the growth of local low-cost carriers and the related risks due to under financing. The presentation will cover areas of threat to traditional carriers and their responses.

The EC's expansion affected and remains to affect legislation in Central and Eastern Europe. How does this impact international corporations and which are the legislative issues that have an impact on the aviation and travel industries?

Finally, Mr Klenner will discuss the establishment of the European Air Safety Agency (EASA) and Railway agency before giving attendees an overview of the EU transport strategy for the future and its impact on business travel in CEE.
