Major Themes

After an introduction as to the objectives of the session, a video of a recent interview of Marc Hildebrand, Chairman of TQ3, by Derek Jewson, Chief Executive, Odyssey Management Services, was shown. This interview can be viewed here.

A general discussion followed during which Jewson briefed the attendees as to the discussion and debate held in London on the 5th October 2001.

It was felt that a number of the issues raised had relevance to Sweden but not to such an impact due a lesser reliance on the Trans-Atlantic business.

A discussion on travel management agencies stated the importance in the area of American Express/Nyman & Schulz with such a dominant market share of corporate business.

It was agreed that for the immediate future travel management companies (tmc) will need to provide a robust crisis management programme on behalf of their corporate clients. It was felt that TMC have an increased importance in this area following the tragic events of the 11th September.

The hotel issues of London did not apply in Sweden however it was agreed that London Hotel prices were considered extremely high.

Airline capacity cutbacks had not really affected the business travel market in Sweden. The importance for the market was inter country air services. SAS dominated this area and some concerned was expressed as to what actions SAS may be required to take in the near future.

Lay off of trained staff was not at this time an issue in Sweden.
