With the
Stockholm attendees there was major concern as to the present
uncertainties with airlines in particular. A lengthy discussion
on this point ensued. Continental had already advised the Germany
market as to the actions they had taken to reduce costs/staff
and schedules so that they could continue to operate, removing
doubt. It was generally felt that more transatlantic air capacity
would be reduced in the coming days/weeks. There was general
concern as to the size and impact such reduction will have on
the market. Inter European air services are an important feature
of business for Germany and it was felt that any further reduction
in this area would have a significant impact. It was felt LH
was in a strong position to weather the current problems.
The role
of travel management companies has increased in importance in
the minds of corporates.
Whilst
being global as a TMC is important, the local knowledge and
experience was not to be underestimated. This aspect has been
heightened post 11th September.
