President Position Description


Position Title: President
Position Reports To: Board of Directors
Position Terms: Three-years
        Serves as:
President-Elect January - December, 2003
President January - December, 2004
Past-President January - December, 2005

Position Purpose: The President of ACTE is the Chief Executive Officer of the Association. This position has the following responsibilities:
  • Represent the organization to the entire travel industry and the media in general
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and marketing of the Association's vision and strategy to the membership, the industry, and business leaders around the globe
  • Responsible for the creation of passion for learning among the membership in an effort to improve the industry and the individual's position within their company

Major Activities (What Does The Position Do)   End Results (Why Is It Done)
1. Leadership
Provide leadership to the ACTE staff and ensure that adequate processes exist within the business   Ensures that the internal operations of ACTE are operated as a business and will withstand the test of time
Provide direct supervision to the Chief Staff Officer of ACTE   Provides the stewardship and guidance to the senior employee of the organization
Develop relationships with key senior management throughout all travel related businesses globally to maximise the awareness of ACTE's value within the industry   Ensures that ACTE maximises the return to its membership from these relationships
Provides leadership to the officers of ACTE through meetings, conference calls, and one-on-one mentoring and staff meetings   To ensure that the duties of each officer is carried out to the fullest extent
Direct timely, accurate, and relevant global financial reporting methodology / systems at all levels throughout ACTE   To ensure a sound, accurate, on time reporting of the financial strength of the organization exists
2. Operations:
Develops and conducts Board meetings in coordination with Chief Staff Officer   Creates structure and guidance for volunteer leadership
Conducts weekly activity conference calls with Chief Staff Officer   Creates seamless operation between staff and volunteer leadership
Conducts monthly activity conference calls with Executive Committee   Provides focused activity updates for all leaders
Appoints all committee chairs   Creates effective committee structure working in harmony with Board and staff to meet Association goals and objectives
Develops President's communication strategy delivered through Association publications, event speeches and industry presentations   Assures one consistent message that aligns with Association goals and objectives
3. Best Practice
Work closely with Chief Staff Officer to ensure delivery of products and services are benchmarked against other industry businesses   To identify relevant best practice and develop pro-active response to the needs of the members, leadership and staff
4. Position in Association
Reporting to: Board of Directors of ACTE
Subordinates: Chief Staff Officer, Treasurer, President-Elect, Past-President
5. Decision Making Authority
This position has all operational decision making authority for ACTE.
6. Communication
Deliver comprehensive, professional communication to the industry at large and the membership specifically on the direction of the association. Will also take stands on issues that are of importance to the membership of the association as a whole.
7. Financials
Ensures that sound business practices exist within the organization to ensure that all processes of a financial nature are followed.
8. Leader Specification
Member for at least one year
Volunteer or Board experience
Recognized professional leadership qualifications in the travel industry
Demonstrated participation in ACTE leadership

Skill Requirements:

Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
Good negotiating skills
Good team building skills
