Alexandria, Va --
The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) has engaged Juan Enriquez, a leading authority on the economic and political impacts of life sciences, as a keynote speaker for the association’s Global Education Conference in Washington, D.C., 5-7 April 2009.
“One of the greatest threats to economic recovery is the suppression of new thinking that could make an immediate difference to the business travel industry,” said ACTE President Richard Crum.
According to Crum, the selection of keynote speakers with the ability to provide new insights and inspiration for finding solutions to industry challenges, provides increased value to ACTE conference attendees whether they are travel service buyers or suppliers. “Each of our keynote speakers will provide strategies for the industry to move forward, not just platitudes and more bad news,” said Crum.
Enriquez is Chairman and CEO of Biotechonomy, a company that researches and funds startups that are working to develop the promise of the genomic revolution. A former faculty member at Harvard Business School, Enriquez founded and directed its Life Science Project. He is the author of As the Future Catches You: How Genomics & Other Forces are Changing Your Life, Work, Health & Wealth, an indispensable guide to the life science revolution and its importance for global business and culture. Enriquez’s latest book, The Untied States of America, was published in November 2005. He was also named to Fast Company’s Fast 50 for 2005, the magazine’s annual compilation of emerging business leaders.
Enriquez serves on a variety of boards including Cabot Corporation, The Harvard Medical School Genetics Advisory Council, The Chairman's International Council of the Americas Society, the Visiting Committee of Harvard's David Rockefeller Center, Tufts University's EPIIC, Harvard Business School's PAPSAC, and the J. Craig Venter Institute.
He previously served as CEO of Mexico City's Urban Development Corporation, Coordinator General of Economic Policy and Chief of Staff for Mexico's Secretary of State, and as a member of the Peace Commission that negotiated the cease-fire in Chiapas' Zapatista rebellion.
Enriquez earned a B.A. and an MBA from Harvard, with honors.
Other keynote speakers at the event include Juan Enriquez, one of the world’s leading authorities on the dynamics of the economic and political impacts of the life sciences, and Polly LaBarre, author of the best-seller, Mavericks at Work: Why the Most Original Minds in Business Win, and former editor of Fast Company magazine.
