Ron
Wagner Named ACTE President
Costa
del Sol, Nov. 15 - Ron Wagner (president,
WorldTravel Partners-BTI West Division) has been named as
the next president of the Association of Corporate Travel
Executives. The announcement was made jointly by Armand LeCompte,
ACTE Chairman, and Earl Foster, ACTE President, following
the candidate's approval by the Board of Governors at ACTE
Global '99.
"I'm
honored and flattered," said Wagner, a 4-year member of the
association and a 33 year veteran in the industry.. "Following
in the footsteps of Earl Foster is a daunting prospect, but
he has certainly provided a larger than life role model during
the last four years."
As
president of WorldTravel Partners-BTI's West Division, Wagner
holds total bottom line responsibility for building a decentralized
infrastructure that supports a $300 million division. Wagner
serves on BTI's Advisory Board concerning global consolidation
of multi-national accounts. Previously, he served as the senior
vice president, Western Region for BTI Americas Inc. His responsibilities
there included sales management and development, marketing,
account and relationship management, operations, consulting
services and financial control for the West Division.
Wagner
was selected from a field of candidates, submitted by the
association's international membership. ACTE's bylaws call
for the Nominating Committee to review each candidate and
to recommend a nominee for the Board of Governor's approval.
A member of the Board of Governors himself, Wagner plays an
instrumental role on the task force to guide and monitor the
association's three-year strategic plan.
According
to LeCompte, Wagner's credentials came complete with a strategy
for selecting a slate of officers, an action plan for his
first 100 days in office, a global communications program,
and a plan for making ACTE more responsive to the needs of
an international constituency.
Wagner
has indicated that he will focus on forming a slate of officers
and an Executive Committee that reflect the association's
international membership.
Following
a number of internal changes initiated earlier this year,
the duties of ACTE's president largely concern the association's
operations, while issues regarding strategy fall within the
domain of the chairman. Wagner will officially assume the
office of ACTE President at the conclusion of the association's
Annual Member's Conference, in April, 2000. Earl Foster will
become chairman at the same time.
ACTE
President Earl Foster congratulated Wagner on his nomination
and offered his support in the future.
"Ron
Wagner is no stranger to boardrooms, executive decisions,
or strategic issues," said Foster. "His knowledge of this
profession, coupled with his service to ACTE, makes him an
ideal candidate for the office."
