Airfare Rationalization To Head Agenda For Business Travel Executives in New York City
|
Alexandria, VA (Nov. 5) -- The first topic on the agenda is airfare reform and business travel management specialists from companies throughout the New York metropolitan area are expected to say plenty, at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives' Forum in that city, on November 9, 2004
"This is one issue that refuses to stay on the back burner," said ACTE President Garth Jopling. "Nor should it. Airfare rationalization is an idea whose time has come. Our industry has witnessed major economic changes, particularly with regard to the primary focus of travel managers and the travel agency community. This evolution needs to continue into the model for airline pricing."
The first of a four-part program agenda, an analysis of airfare rationalization and its current status will be presented by Michael Boult, Chief Operating Officer, for eCLIPSE Advisors. The following presentation, conducted by Jim Compton, Executive Vice President, Marketing, for Continental Airlines, will identify cost elements that are driving up the price of business travel -- and strategies undertaken by the carriers to keep those costs down.
The unrestricted GDS environment has left the business travel industry wary of the benefits of a "suddenly" free marketplace. Consequently, the jury is still out on the impact a new open skies agreement is likely to have on airline alliances. Carsten Schaeffer, Director eLine Sales & Alliances, NA, Lufthansa Airlines will present both sides of the situation.
And ACTE will ask the question: When they do what we do, do it in the same manner, and experience the same problems, when do they become us? This will be asked in an effort to clear the blurring of the lines between low-cost carriers and network airlines. Helane Becker, Managing Director, for The Benchmark Company will explore the crossover between both.
The event will convene at 8:00am, on November 9, 2004 at the the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, 1605 Broadway, New York, NY 10019 (212-315-6125). To register online, please go to http://www.acte.org/events/ny_110904/teaser.shtml
