ACTE Presents Global Vision Award To PricewaterhouseCoopers Travel Management Team

(AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, October 23, 2000) The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) has presented its prestigious Global Vision Award to the travel management team of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world's largest professional services organization. The award was announced today at ACTE Global 2000, the organization's annual international forum, continuing here through October 24.

"We traditionally present this award each year to the ACTE member who has contributed significantly toward the globalization of travel management," explained Award Committee Chair Cheryl Hutchinson, corporate travel manager from American Management Systems, Inc. "This year, however, we are pleased to honor an entire team of travel industry professionals who came together to succeed at one of the most ambitious global travel management challenges in recent years."

The PricewaterhouseCoopers team was nominated for the award based on its efforts toward creating a global travel management program - including the negotiation of consolidated air, hotel, rental car and travel card components - following the 1998 merger of Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand. The resulting program involves more than 130,000 employees traveling to 155 countries worldwide, and represents the first global travel management effort for either entity.

"These travel management professionals demonstrated remarkable expertise in combining and, in many cases, creating processes and procedures for global travel management. And they did it in 'zero-time,'" said Hutchinson, referring to a previous challenge he issued to ACTE membership about responding to today's rapidly changing business environment.

Accepting the award on behalf of the PricewaterhouseCoopers travel management team were:

  • Mark Avery, U.K. travel manager
  • Richard Cornwell, U.K. travel manager (retiring)
  • Gabriel Eshagian, global airline manager
  • Sara Isaacs, U.S. travel manager
  • Garth Jopling, Canada travel leader
  • Jim Lennon, global travel leader
  • Ian Scott, Europe/Middle East/Africa travel leader
  • Mark Williams, Americas travel leader

"On behalf of the entire team, we're both surprised and honored to be recognized by ACTE in this way," said Williams. "It was a massive project, especially when you consider that we all had our normal daily job responsibilities to accomplish at the same time. Still, it's an ongoing process, one that continues to evolve."

ACTE presented each PricewaterhouseCoopers team member with a commemorative Global Vision award bowl.

Founded in 1988, the Association of Corporate Travel Executives is the only organization wholly dedicated to the science of business travel management with an international constituency. ACTE membership totals more than 2,400, including entities in Asia, Europe, Canada and the United States. The organization is headquartered in Alexandria, Va., and its web site is www.acte.org.
