ACTE Leadership Announced at Munich Conference


(Alexandria, Virginia, USA, October 25, 2002) -- The Association of Corporate Travel Executives confirmed the nominations of Garth W. Jopling, travel manager, Canada, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, as president-elect and Clive Armitage, director of travel, meetings, and fleet purchasing for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals as treasurer-elect. John Guarneri, global travel manager for BP America, Inc., has been elected to the association's board of directors. The announcements were made on the final day of the ACTE Global Conference in Munich (Oct. 20 - 22).

Jopling has more than 10 years experience in the industry and is responsible for his company's Canadian travel program. He began his career as a travel manager for Digital Equipment of Canada, where he established and managed the travel program through 1993. Jopling then served as an analyst in Digital's finance group until 1996, when he signed on with Rider Travel (now BTI Canada) as an industry relations manager with oversight for negotiating and managing the override programs. Jopling moved to the Corporate Consulting Group in 1997 where he managed client relationships (including legacy Price Waterhouse and the Bank of Montreal). He joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1998.

Clive Armitage, director of travel, meetings, and fleet purchasing for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals has been in the business travel management profession since 1989 and a member of ACTE since 1994. He began his career with ICI (Imperial Chemical) in 1969 and has moved forward and upward through two mergers (with Astra in 1973, and with Zeneca in 1999).

M. John Guarneri is global travel manager for BP America, Inc., responsible for the company's worldwide travel agency, rental car, hotel, airline, automated booking system, charge and procurement card programs. A 25-year veteran of the travel industry, Guarneri has pioneered various automated projects such as online expense reporting, automated booking systems, a company travel Web site, vendor extranets, e-ticketing and other new ways of doing business.
