Spotlights Solutions to Crowded Skies at NJ Event
(Alexandria,
Virginia, June 1, 2001) - The Association of Corporate Travel
Executives (ACTE) has announced a special Executive Forum event
that will be presented in Parsippany, NJ on June 8, dedicated
to the issue of crowded skies. Themed "Gridlock in the Skies and
on the Ground: What are the solutions to area airport congestion?"
the half day education event will present industry experts who
will provide insights into the issue on both a national and local
level. Kevin Mitchell, chairman of the Business Travel Coalition,
a business travel advocacy group, will share the results of his
research into the underlying issues of crowded skies that have
exacerbated an already taxed air traffic control system.
George
Doughty, the Executive Director of Lehigh Valley Airport and a
leading voice in government circles on domestic aviation issues
will discuss the recently implemented and near-at-hand solutions
that the flying public can expect to see soon that will bring
some relief to the crowded skies.
Newark
Airport was ranked fourth in a recent FAA study of the airports
leading the list of airports with the most frequent delays. The
congestion on taxiways extends to conditions on the access roads
to the airport as well. Representatives from the NY/NJ Port Authority
and Continental Airlines, a carrier with a dominant presence at
Newark will provide the audience with the phased-in solutions
that will address these situations. Jon Weston, Assistant Program
Director, Aviation Department, for Port Authority of NY and NJ
will discuss the improved parking and access roads that travelers
to Newark Airport can expect to use in the fall. Richard Smyth,
Program Principal for Global Gateway, will provide an update on
the construction at Terminal C and what one can expect once the
backhoes and plywood walls are removed. Rounding out the program
will be Glenn Morse, Senior Director-Industry Affairs for Continental
Airlines who will focus on specific measures that Continental
will employ working with the FAA to reduce flight delays at Newark
Airport.
