Travel Executives Form Alliance with Corporate Privacy Officers

Alexandria, VA (May 17) -- The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) today announced it has formed an educational alliance with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). According to a statement by ACTE President Garth Jopling, the growing emphasis on privacy issues in the business travel sector has created a substantial overlap of corporate travel policies and privacy policies.

"The ongoing evolution of the CAPPS II program -- and now the accelerated development of a registered traveler program -- has exposed a lot of philosophical and operational questions regarding privacy," said Jopling. "Questions that travel managers will have to ultimately answer in making their evaluations and recommendations to upper management. Just as changing times have brought business travel into the realm of corporate security, we've reached the point where corporate privacy officers and travel managers need to confer."

"Travel security is a sensitive area where privacy issues are concerned, balancing the need to protect citizens from terror attacks with the need to protect the personal information of travelers," said Trevor Hughes, executive director of the IAPP. "By partnering with ACTE, the IAPP can build awareness of these important issues while offering guidance based on current regulatory understanding."

The International Association of Privacy Professionals is the world's largest association for individuals in the profession of privacy, helping its members build and maintain privacy programs while effectively navigating the rapidly changing regulatory and legal environments.

The Association of Corporate Travel Managers was founded in 1988 as the research and analysis resource for the global business travel industry.
