PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: BRUSSELS OFFICE FOR ACTE As companies and their travel departments continue to globalize, so too does ACTE. I am pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has recently approved the plan to establish a significant presence for our organization in Europe. It's a logical move, now that 20% of our membership, or 345 people, is based on the Continent. Accordingly, we have hired an association management firm, with offices based in Brussels and reporting to ACTE headquarters in Washington. We also will soon be hiring a European Director, who along with the management firm will begin the efforts to provide solid professional support to current ACTE Europe members and to enhance our efforts to reach our potential members. We expect the office to be up and running by the first quarter of the new year. On the agenda: to continue to provide quality programming and to back up the efforts of what was until recently, a dedicated, but overwhelmed, volunteer organization. We'll add to the number of forums we already offer, and begin programming in countries where we have not yet established a presence. By increasing our reach around the globe, we will add value to the entire membership by providing timely insights that undoubtedly will be useful in your continued globalization efforts. Major changes are occurring at ACTE headquarters as well. It is with sadness and fondness that we see Terrell Mellen, ACTE Executive Director for the past three years, move on to a new juncture in her career. ACTE would not be where it is today if not for her creativity, enthusiastic approach to the business and leadership. We wish her the best of luck in her new position. I am also extremely pleased to announce that Nancy Holtzman, former Strategic Account Director for System One/Amadeus, has taken over the helm as Executive Director of ACTE. Nancy has been a dedicated volunteer with ACTE for the past eight years and has assisted us in so many ways that it is not possible to list all of them. She has the vision, the dedication and creativity required to take us confidently into the next millennium. Let us all wisher her all the best.
Earl Foster
