Belt Tightening at 30,000 Feet
Los Angeles, CA
September 21, 2004
Sheraton Gateway Hotel Los Angeles Airport
This Forum will begin with a response from airline and financial executives
to the question, "Where are you going to find that $1 billion in fat in your
airline that must be trimmed?" Many airlines will admit there's very little
fat left and most likely there will be some cutting away of muscle. How
will these drastic financial reductions transform the domestic
carriers--more facile and fleet of foot, or just skin and bones?
The Forum will then move on to take a close up look at some probable
outcomes in business travel in the wake of the July 31 expiration of GDS
regulations.

View Presentation: Critical Condition: The US Network Carriers
2004 was forecasted as the year when the US network carriers would be made whole again and staunch the hemorrhaging in losses that has occurred since 2001. But rather than return to healthy operations this year, the very survival of the US network carriers is uncertain. This situation is a major concern for every segment of the business travel industry, which understands that the demise of any ailing carrier will deeply affect all stakeholders. Learn from an executive from a major airline the steps his carrier is taking
to ensure its survival. A prominent airline analyst will also share his perspective on what the network carriers must do to improve their situation.
