Survey Documents Corporate Travel Cut-Backs
(Tampa,
FL, USA, April 23, 2001)--The Association of Corporate
Travel Executives (ACTE) provided results of a conference
survey on the effect of the economic slowdown on business
travel. The survey was conducted during ACTE's Global
Spring 2001 Conference in Tampa, Florida and generally
indicated that business travel is being cut back.
43% of corporate attendees responded that their companies
had made a decision to cut back on business travel. 72%
of the supplier attendance reported their corporate customers
had cut back on travel. Suppliers quantified the customer
travel drop-off in the range of 6-10% over 2000 figures.
When asked where the ax had fallen, corporates responded
that 41% of cutbacks were in the area of internal travel,
with international travel the second largest affected
area. Further, seventy-nine percent of the corporates
reported that cutbacks were applied to their company's
business travelers on a global basis.
Survey responses from 45% of the corporates regarding
the basis of their corporations' decision to cut back
on travel indicated the cutback was in response to real
earnings shortfalls, while 55% said it was premised on
the threat of earnings shortfall.
