Corporate Jet Market in Belgium and Consortium Buying
Brussels, Belgium
Chez Léon & Le Méridien
Rue des Bouchers 18
15 September 2005

Dear BATM/ACTE member,
For the second time this year, ACTE and the Belgian Association of Travel Management (BATM) are joining forces to organize another exceptional education event in Belgium scheduled for September 15, 2005 in Brussels.
In recognition of this important year for Belgium - 175 years on the map - we will start the event with a welcome and lunch at the most Belgian of the Belgian restaurants, "Chez Leon". After what promises to be an excellent start and a short walk, our forum will continue at "Le Meridien Brussels" Hotel.
The BATM / ACTE event will look at the Private Jet market in Belgium and its inclusion and integration within the managed corporate travel programme as an increasing number of corporations are turning to private jet to augment the employee use of commercial air carriers. Who are the corporates using these services, what is the ROI on this kind of expense, how does one create a policy on usage of private jets and what kind of technology exists to manage the reservations? This session will attempt to provide answers to these and other questions related to private corporate jets.
The second part of our event will explore how our keynote speaker, Jo-Achim Hamburger, Global Travel Manager for Electrolux, has successfully negotiated a consortium discount agreement with SN Brussels Airlines (SNBA) on behalf of Electrolux, Ericsson, Volvo, Scania, AstraZeneca and Sandvik. A rare breakthrough in corporate buying and a world premier that grabbed headlines in the travel press around the world. This subject will then be debated in more depth by an expert panel including Electrolux, SNBA, BTI Nordic and Travel Pool Europe.
Is this model the future for corporate negotiations? What other new models are emerging in Europe? And what were SNBA's reasons for taking the brave decision to break what has traditionally been a major airline taboo? Can this approach with other travel supply purchasing?
These questions and of course yours will be answered during what is expected to be an highly interactive session.
We look forward to seeing you all on September 15th !

The SNBA deal - Does it work and can consortium buying be sustainable ?
In December 2004 six Scandinavian companies jointly signed a preferred carrier agreement with SN Brussels Airlines. In return for substantial reductions and flexibility in fares, AstraZeneca, Electrolux, Ericsson, Sandvik, Scania and Volvo have offered the carrier 90 percent of their volume on three routes out of Brussels.
Is consortium buying a new way for companies with similar travel patterns to join together and hammer out advantageous deals with selected suppliers, and does it work? Or does it require unique and criteria so specific that it prevents broader application?
Jo-Achim Hamburger will explain how he worked out this new model of business travel management, the problems/advantages of consortium buying, results of anticipated savings and how competing airlines reacted .
