The Search For Normal
Sponsored by InterContinental Hotels Group

Change and uncertainty has dominated all aspects of business travel for the past thirty months. As a result corporate travel executives are adjusting to a new normal dominated by economic pessimism and geo-political upheaval. Altering patterns and behaviors throughout the industry is destroying tradition requiring new business models based on flexibility, communication and cost containment. Innovative technologies must be used to promote movement, pace, and speed as the critical qualities of a 21st century travel strategy. This general session is designed to challenge the status quo and identify areas of opportunity that will redefine all our roles.

Presenters:
Lalia Rach, Ed.D., Associate Dean, HVS International Chair
Preston Robert Tisch, Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management, New York University
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Networking Break
Sponsored by TQ3 Travel Solutions

11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m The Reality of the NEW Normal
This unique learning experience will allow you to actively work in small groups to solve real industry problems and offer actionable suggestion that you and your colleagues can take away and implement immediately. Pre-select one of these four topics when you register.

"The NEW S.O.P." (Standard Operating Procedures)
Armed with all this new insight from Dr. Rach's enlightening view ofour new "T&E; Reality"...visualize the new Standard Operating Procedures required to build the new business model that will satisfy your front line travellers, your CFO and all other "interested parties"of the T&E; lifecycle. Who needs to be involved...what will you change...policies, procedures ...how will you do it...what are the costs?

"The NEW I.T." (Information Technology)
"Boon or Bane of Your Existence?"
Are we really more efficient through the use of our technology or merely putting in more hours? Define what you expect technology to do for your organization. Consider online booking systems, data reconciliation, multiple data streams, etc. In your new T&E; environment, what are the next steps?

"The NEW V.P." (Value Proposition)
Define the new value proposition to the CFO, the key players and shareholders. Identify your most valuable partners/players - internal or external. How are you maintaining value in the "NEW Normal"? What role do you play? Is training required?

"The NEW D.I.Y." (Do It Yourself)
"DIY" is a prevalent theme in North American society and money and time are dominating our objectives. In the managed travel world is this the right theme? Discuss your profit objective versus cost containment when it comes to "DIY". Where does the real value lie once you factor in all the hard and soft costs? Identify some possible "DIYs"; attach a simple action plan and associated costs to every idea. Then see how the bottom line compares to your original ideas.
