Dallas City Tour: Saturday, April 1 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Explore the hidden treasures and history of the "Big D"
the 'real' Dallas from its frontier settlement infancy to the town's
emergence as one of the nation's most dynamic and thriving cities. Dealey
Plaza and the acclaimed "Sixth Floor Exhibit," housed in the
former Texas School Book Depository Building, will be highlighted. After
free time for lunch in the historic West End, your tour continues, driving
past the architectural detail of the Romanesque "Old Red" courthouse,
the Belo Mansion (site of Bonnie and Clyde's funeral wake), the original
Neiman Marcus department store and the Magnolia Oil building, topped with
the symbol of Dallas Pegasus, the winged horse. Admire Pioneer
Plaza, with its majestic herd of Longhorn cattle ascending a rocky bluff
into a babbling brook, directed by three mounted cowboys, all struck in
larger-than-life bronze. Tour price of $26.00 per person does not include
lunch.
A Day at Southfork Tour: Sunday, April 2 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
Join fellow attendees to experience the "Big D" as perceived
from the TV screen on a tour that explores the hidden treasures and history
of the "fantasy" Dallas Southfork Ranch. This 41-acre
homestead of the fictional Ewing family, one of Texas' top visitor destinations,
has been called the "Rolls Royce of Ranches." The sight of grazing
thoroughbreds, cattle and buffalo will remind you that this is a real
working ranch. A special guided tour inside the Southfork Mansion will
detail the history of the original Southfork inhabitants and how this
site actually became the setting for the series... J.R.'s million-dollar
bathroom, Miss Ellie's kitchen, Bobby's western detailed bedroom and the
famous Ewing living room. Stroll through the grounds, which include a
world-class rodeo arena. Later, a Texas-size barbecue lunch will be served,
after which you can proceed to the Southfork Museum to see the gun used
to shoot J.R. and photographs from the show's incredible 10-year run on
network television. Tour price of $35.00 per person includes lunch.
