Global Data Protection and Security Issues

How Safe Are We in 2008?

Monday, 19 May 2008 09:00 - 11:00

The symposium is limited to 50 delegates and is by invitation only.

Look at any newspaper or listen to any news program today and there is sure to be a story about data protection and security. It’s an issue that affects everyone, but particularly the international business traveler who has little or no control over how their personal information is stored or disseminated globally or by whom.

National security concerns have impacted both travelers’ mobility and data privacy. Increased tensions around the globe have forced our international government agencies and law enforcement bodies to implement physical and virtual protection mechanisms for improving the safety of civilians, as well as the protection of information. In this new security environment, travelers have had to react and adjust to new technical and compliance requirements that many times impede the conduct of business. Some of the most pressing travel issues today include:

  • Shared international security databases
  • Transatlantic data privacy conflicts
  • Laptop seizures at U.S. border crossings
  • Traveler fingerprinting and other biometric measures currently under exploration
  • Traveler tracking

This interactive discussion will focus on practical advice to the business travel community, as well as discuss the impact key economic security issues have upon the business travel industry.
