ACTE Recognizes Industry Leaders
Washington, DC -- At its Annual Members Conference held in Seattle earlier this month, the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) gave special recognition to three ACTE members who helped to elevate the standards of the business travel industry during 1995.
Mike Spooner, Corporate Travel Manager for Reynolds Metal Company, was presented with ACTE's "President's Award", for significant contributions to the association. ACTE's financial stability is a reality largely because of the efforts of Mr. Spooner, who served as ACTE's Vice President of Finance for the past two years. "His endless enthusiasm, optimism and wisdom have sustained ACTE not only during the past year, but throughout the history of the association," commented Earl Foster, president of ACTE.
Larry Cook, Vice President Commercial Sales & Marketing for Travel and Transport, Inc., was presented with ACTE's "Business Professionalism Award", for significant contributions to his own company. Mr. Cook has spear-headed the scales activity of Travel and Transport to help bring it a national presence. During 1995, he was instrumental in bringing more than $90 million in new business to Travel and Transport. At the same time, he has demonstrated an exceptionally high level of professionalism and integrity.
Fred Swaffer, Corporate Travel Manager for Hewlett-Packard Company, was presented with ACTE's "Industry Professionalism Award", for significant contributions to the corporate travel industry. "No one has been a more effective spokesman, nor a more innovative and farsighted leader in the business travel industry over the past decade", said David Murphy, Chairman of the ACTE Awards Committee. "He has created a template for others to follow in the area of supplier negotiation, overall communications and global management."
The Association of Corporate Travel Executives is a non-profit professional organization comprised of corporate practitioners of travel management techniques and suppliers of business travel services. ACTE was formed in 1987 expressly to educate, promote, protect and advance the interests of its members as well as the interests of the corporate travel industry as a whole.
