ACTE 2006 Awards Program

ACTE Lifetime Achievement Award

Rolfe Shellenberger, President, Travel Management & Marketing Consultancy
While at American Airlines, Shellenberger developed AA's credit card policy and systems and created the first airline fly/drive tour program. He also introduced concepts such as self-booking, e-mail reservations, ticket-less travel, and the elimination of travel expense account forms as a Travel Management Consultant. Throughout his career, Shellenberger's ideas and innovations greatly changed and affected the business travel industry for the better.

"Writer, presenter, commentator, wit, and sage - few individuals have had the insight into our industry nor the impact of Rolfe Shellenberger during his 50-year career," said ACTE President Greeley Koch. "He has been a strong friend of this association from its inception."

ACTE Advancing the Industry Award

EMEA

Andreas Mutschler, EMEA Manager, Meeting & Travel Services, BearingPoint
Andreas conducted an integrated change management programme at BearingPoint to improve ROI across EMEA on their travel spend. The integrated programme which was conducted in a structured systematic way, focusing on two areas:

• Increasing transparency and cost-consciousness regarding business travel

• Providing tools to enable more effective and cost efficient travel planning for all traveling employees.

Within the past year, Mutscler reported significant increases in online booking tool adoption, an increase in average ticket price savings, and a positive impact on travel and other internal departments. Mutschler attributes effective communications with upper management as a key element in his change management strategy.

Asia-Pacific

Keiko Sund, Country Travel Representative, Cargill Japan Limited
Keiko came forth as an invaluable source of information on doing business in Japan in the current economic climate, and strongly urged ACTE to address this subject in a regional forum. She played a pivotal role on the programme advisory committee for the 2006 Asia-Pacific Regional Education Conference, identifying industry leaders in Japan as presenters, discussing content, and organizing meetings.

Sund also set aside her own busy schedule to lend support to the presenting team at the conference. The result was a resoundingly successful educational session which delivered new-found knowledge for both regional and international constituents of the industry about the Japanese market.

ACTE Canada

Garth Jopling, Travel Manager, Canada, Pricewaterhouse Coopers
A former ACTE President and Board Member, Garth Jopling dedicated his expertise to a variety of issues, ranging from international security to the globalization of the travel management function. Jopling was the driving force behind the consolidation of the CBTA and ACTE in Canada, and presented the case for expanded onboard traveler communications to the Canadian government. He was a voice for accurate reporting during the SARS crisis in Toronto and played a crucial role in bringing ACTE Canada into the international limelight.

Alain Legault, Manager, Travel & Relocation, NAV CANADA
Alain Legault made the advancement of the business travel management function in Canada his personal crusade. He worked tirelessly to promote CBTA functions, recruit members, and to amplify the voice of the business travel manager. Legault is credited with making the CBTA a major player in the Canadian travel arena and with being the first to take on government-related issues.

ACTE United States

Eric Boulter, Senior Group Manager & Category Leader, Travel, PepsiCo Inc.
Eric Boulter launched a targeted-buy hotel program within Pepsi's preferred hotel program. With hotel rates increasing and expected to remain high through 2008, he targeted high traffic markets for special negotiated programs. Pepsi was able to negotiate a reduced room rate in exchange for increased volume commitment to specific hotels. With his highly unique approach to hotel negotiation, Eric has established a new model within the industry which provides business travel management and hotel procurement with additional negotiating power.
